Hereke Navy takes its name and its drawing from Hereke, north-west Türkiye — founded 1843. Hereke was built as an imperial manufactory on the Sea of Marmara to weave for the Ottoman palace, and for a century it set the standard every other Turkish workshop measured itself against. Its weavers weighted the design toward the centre and kept the borders disciplined.

How to read the pattern.

A Hereke field is organised around a single medallion with quarter-medallions answering it in the corners. Read it as a domed ceiling seen from below: the centre is the apex, the corner spandrels are the pendentives that carry it.

Indigo and marine blue — a palette that reads as dark from across a room and as full of detail from a chair.

How it is made.

Hereke Navy is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

We would put it in the living room or the dining room first. All ten sizes are woven, from 60 × 100 cm up to 200 × 300 cm.

Living with it.

It goes in a domestic washing machine at 30°C — no dry cleaner, no specialist, no hire-in machine. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

Made to be lived with

Soft chenille polyester is woven into a dense, low pile on a cotton backing with a non-slip finish. It is designed for everyday vacuuming and a domestic 30°C wash.

Come caricarlo: Piega il tappeto senza stringerlo, inseriscilo da solo nel cestello e non superare mai la capacità a secco dichiarata. Usa un ciclo delicato a 30 °C con detergente neutro, ridagli forma e asciugalo disteso all’aria. Segui sempre l’etichetta e le istruzioni della lavatrice.

Care, without the guesswork

Wash, dry, back to the room.

Follow the sewn care label and use a drum with enough room for the rug to move freely.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

  6. 06

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.

Always check the sewn care label and your machine instructions. Wash the rug alone and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity.
