The design behind Karabagh Burgundy comes from Karabakh, south Caucasus. Karabagh lay on the trade route between Persia and the Caucasus and its weaving shows both hands — Caucasian geometry loosened by Persian floral drawing, and by the 19th century even by European chintz.

How to read the pattern.

Large floral or medallion forms over strong red, drawn geometrically but derived from curved originals. It is a translation, and it keeps a trace of both languages.

This colourway.

A warm red ground that shifts noticeably between daylight and lamplight — an old quality of madder-dyed carpets. A second run of ivory keeps the field from settling into one note.

How it is made.

Karabagh Burgundy is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

Best in the living room and the bedroom. Ten sizes are available, small enough for a doorway and large enough to sit an entire room on.

Living with it.

Everyday life washes out. Thirty degrees, gentle cycle, dry flat, put it back down. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

Soft chenille polyester is woven into a dense, low pile on a cotton backing with a non-slip finish. It is designed for everyday vacuuming and a domestic 30°C wash.

How to load it: Fold the rug loosely, place it in the drum by itself and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity. Use a gentle 30°C cycle with mild detergent, then reshape and air dry flat. Always follow the sewn care label and your machine manufacturer's instructions.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.

Always check the sewn care label and your machine instructions. Wash the rug alone and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity.
