Fretwork Ochre takes its name and its drawing from architectural screens and lattice. Fret patterns come from pierced screens — the mashrabiya of the Islamic world, the lattice window of China — where the design exists as much in the gaps as in the solid.

How it is made.

Fretwork Ochre is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

It earns its place in the living room and the bedroom above all, and comes in ten sizes — eight rectangles from a 60 × 100 cm mat to a 200 × 300 cm room anchor, plus 160 cm and 200 cm rounds.

Living with it.

When it needs it, fold it in and wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle. It dries flat in a few hours. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

How to load it: Fold the rug loosely, place it in the drum by itself and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity. Use a gentle 30°C cycle with mild detergent, then reshape and air dry flat. Always follow the sewn care label and your machine manufacturer's instructions.

Follow the sewn care label and use a drum with enough room for the rug to move freely.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

  6. 06

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.
