The kitchen is the room people most often buy one size too small for. Here is the rule, and why it exists.
The size
A runner along the working side — 80 × 300 cm or 100 × 300 cm — or a 60 × 100 cm mat in front of the sink.
Why that rule exists
Kitchen floors are hard and cold and you stand on them for long stretches. A low-pile rug is comfortable underfoot without being a trip hazard or catching a chair.
The thing to watch
Oil marks are the one thing polyester struggles with more than wool, because the fibre is oleophilic. Wash promptly rather than letting it sit.

Why washable matters here
Wipe-clean comfort underfoot at the counter. Every rug we make washes at 30°C in a domestic machine, grips a hard floor without an underlay, and contains no latex, glue or rubber crumb. In a kitchen that is the difference between a rug you protect and a rug you use.
