Modern Rugs for the Bedroom: What Works and Why

We make 78 modern designs we would put in a bedroom. This is why the combination works, and what to get right.

How modern behaves on a floor

Minimal design needs visible ground to work. It reads as calm in a room that already has enough going on, and as empty in a room that does not — so it suits spaces with strong furniture or architecture to play against.

What a bedroom asks of a rug

Aim for 50–60 cm of rug either side of the bed, or use two 80 × 150 cm runners instead. This is the lowest-traffic room in the house, so the practical constraints relax.

Why the two suit each other

Put a modern design in a bedroom and the room reads as considered rather than decorated. Clean lines, restrained palettes and abstract form. A soft landing either side of the bed.

The colours available in this combination

Across these 78 designs you will find grey & silver, blue & navy, orange & terracotta, mink & brown, yellow & gold, black & anthracite, lilac & purple, green & khaki, cream & white and red & burgundy. They are drawn from 55 separate design sources — Oblique, Mosaic, Vertexa, Antiqued, Provenance, Meridian, Datum and Vector and others — each with its own origin.

The construction

Chenille polyester on a woven cotton backing with a non-slip finish. Machine washable at 30°C, no underlay needed, no latex or rubber crumb. In a bedroom that is the difference between a rug you protect and a rug you use.
