Kazak Sage takes its name and its drawing from south-west Caucasus. Two or three big medallions stacked up a red field, edged with hooks and latch-hooks. Muted greens with the yellow taken out of them, which is exactly how green ages in an old carpet.

Kazak Sage takes its name and its drawing from south-west Caucasus. Kazak rugs come from the highlands where Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan meet. They are the loudest weavings in the Caucasus — few motifs, enormous scale, and colour used at full strength.

Two or three big medallions stacked up a red field, edged with hooks and latch-hooks. The hooks are protective: a toothed edge was understood to catch and turn away harm.

This colourway.

Muted greens with the yellow taken out of them, which is exactly how green ages in an old carpet. A second run of terracotta keeps the field from settling into one note.

How it is made.

Kazak Sage is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

Best in the living room and the bedroom. Ten sizes are available, small enough for a doorway and large enough to sit an entire room on.

Living with it.

Spills, paw prints and muddy shoes all come out at 30°C in an ordinary washing machine. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

Made to be lived with

Soft chenille polyester is woven into a dense, low pile on a cotton backing with a non-slip finish. It is designed for everyday vacuuming and a domestic 30°C wash.

Comment le charger : Pliez le tapis sans le serrer, placez-le seul dans le tambour et ne dépassez jamais la capacité de charge à sec indiquée. Utilisez un cycle délicat à 30 °C avec une lessive douce, remettez-le en forme puis séchez-le à plat à l’air libre. Suivez toujours l’étiquette d’entretien et la notice de la machine.

Care, without the guesswork

Wash, dry, back to the room.

Follow the sewn care label and use a drum with enough room for the rug to move freely.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

  6. 06

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.

Always check the sewn care label and your machine instructions. Wash the rug alone and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity.
