Rug Weavers began with a simple idea: the warmth, colour and storytelling of Eastern rugs should feel at home in the rooms where people live today. Our work follows a long line from the weaving towns and villages of Anatolia to British homes, carrying forward the visual language of handmade rugs while rethinking how a rug should perform in modern life.

Anatolia has always been a meeting place. Roads from Central Asia, Persia, the Caucasus, the Mediterranean and Europe crossed its landscape, and the patterns woven there absorbed that movement. A rug could hold the geometry of a mountain village, the floral rhythm of an Ottoman court, the protective symbols of a nomadic tent and the softened colours of generations of use. These designs were not simply decoration. They marked a marriage, welcomed a guest, warmed a floor and turned daily life into a place of memory.

We do not treat these references as a costume. We read them as a design vocabulary developed by generations of skilled makers.

That vocabulary guides our proportions, colour relationships and names. Some Rug Weavers designs are recognisably heritage-led; others reduce an old motif until it becomes almost architectural. A geometric repeat may remember a kilim without copying one. A floral design may carry the atmosphere of an Ottoman garden while working with a modern sofa and pale oak floor. Even our quietest contemporary patterns are connected to the discipline of the loom: rhythm, balance, repetition and purposeful variation.

Made for modern, washable life

Admiration for traditional rugs does not mean ignoring the way homes have changed. British and European households need rugs that can cope with shoes at the door, children on the floor, pets crossing the room and meals shared without anxiety. That is why our first major collection translates carefully developed patterns into soft, low-pile, machine-washable rugs.

The washable construction is part of the design, not an afterthought. A chenille-polyester face gives the surface a gentle handle and allows colour and detail to read clearly. The low profile sits neatly under furniture and is straightforward to vacuum. A cotton backing gives the rug a textile character, while a non-slip finish helps it stay composed in a busy room. Every washable size is foldable, so the correct washing machine is chosen by the rug’s dry weight and the machine’s stated capacity. A gentle 30°C wash, mild detergent and flat air drying keep care practical and clearly explained.
