The design behind Shirvan Indigo comes from eastern Caucasus, modern Azerbaijan. Shirvan is the plain running down to the Caspian, and its weavers worked at the opposite extreme from Kazak — very low pile, very fine weave, and pattern built from dozens of small units instead of a few large ones.

A field tiled with small repeating boteh, stars or medallions. The reward is in the detail: no two repeats are drawn quite identically.

Indigo and marine blue — a palette that reads as dark from across a room and as full of detail from a chair.

How it is made.

Shirvan Indigo is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

We would put it in the living room or the bedroom first. All ten sizes are woven, from 60 × 100 cm up to 200 × 300 cm.

Living with it.

It goes in a domestic washing machine at 30°C — no dry cleaner, no specialist, no hire-in machine. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

Made to be lived with

Soft chenille polyester is woven into a dense, low pile on a cotton backing with a non-slip finish. It is designed for everyday vacuuming and a domestic 30°C wash.

Como colocar na máquina: Dobre o tapete sem apertar, coloque-o sozinho no tambor e nunca exceda a capacidade de carga seca indicada. Use um ciclo delicado a 30 °C com detergente suave, volte a dar-lhe forma e seque-o ao ar, na horizontal. Siga sempre a etiqueta e as instruções da máquina.

Care, without the guesswork

Wash, dry, back to the room.

Follow the sewn care label and use a drum with enough room for the rug to move freely.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

  6. 06

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.

Always check the sewn care label and your machine instructions. Wash the rug alone and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity.
