Behind Saruk Rust Red sits Saruk, Arak region, western Iran. Saruk carpets were woven in enormous numbers for the American market between the wars, to the point that importers re-dyed them on arrival to suit New York taste — one of the few carpet traditions shaped as much by its buyers as its weavers.

How to read the pattern.

Detached floral sprays scattered over an open rose-red ground. Because the sprays do not connect, the field reads as a still life rather than a garden.

This colourway.

A warm red ground that shifts noticeably between daylight and lamplight — an old quality of madder-dyed carpets. A second run of deep blue keeps the field from settling into one note.

How it is made.

Saruk Rust Red is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

Best in the living room and the dining room. Ten sizes are available, small enough for a doorway and large enough to sit an entire room on.

Living with it.

Everyday life washes out. Thirty degrees, gentle cycle, dry flat, put it back down. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

Made to be lived with

Soft chenille polyester is woven into a dense, low pile on a cotton backing with a non-slip finish. It is designed for everyday vacuuming and a domestic 30°C wash.

Como colocar na máquina: Dobre o tapete sem apertar, coloque-o sozinho no tambor e nunca exceda a capacidade de carga seca indicada. Use um ciclo delicado a 30 °C com detergente suave, volte a dar-lhe forma e seque-o ao ar, na horizontal. Siga sempre a etiqueta e as instruções da máquina.

Care, without the guesswork

Wash, dry, back to the room.

Follow the sewn care label and use a drum with enough room for the rug to move freely.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

  6. 06

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.

Always check the sewn care label and your machine instructions. Wash the rug alone and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity.
