Kashan Slate takes its name and its drawing from Kashan, central Iran. Kashan was the silk-weaving city of Safavid Iran and produced some of the most celebrated carpets ever made. Its later revival in the 19th century re-established the dense, formal Kashan medallion that is still copied everywhere.

How to read the pattern.

A round or lobed medallion floating on a field of curling vine and palmette. The field is never empty: the vine scroll fills every gap, a horror of blank ground that reads as abundance.

This colourway.

A quiet grey ground that reads as a neutral from standing height and resolves into several distinct tones close up. A second run of ochre keeps the field from settling into one note.

How it is made.

Kashan Slate is woven from soft chenille polyester with a flat, low pile that vacuums cleanly and does not shed. The base is woven cotton with a non-slip finish worked into it — no latex, no glue and no rubber crumb, which is exactly why it survives a wash cycle when a rubber-backed rug would not.

Where to put it.

Best in the living room and the bedroom. Ten sizes are available, small enough for a doorway and large enough to sit an entire room on.

Living with it.

It goes in a domestic washing machine at 30°C — no dry cleaner, no specialist, no hire-in machine. It is robot-vacuum friendly, safe for children, and fine under pets — the pile is too short and too dense for claws to catch.

Care & washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and return to the floor only when fully dry.

Made to be lived with

Soft chenille polyester is woven into a dense, low pile on a cotton backing with a non-slip finish. It is designed for everyday vacuuming and a domestic 30°C wash.

入れ方： ラグをゆったり折り、単独でドラムに入れ、洗濯機の乾燥重量上限を超えないでください。中性洗剤を使い30℃の弱水流で洗い、形を整えて平干しします。縫い付けのケアラベルと洗濯機の説明書を必ず確認してください。

Care, without the guesswork

Wash, dry, back to the room.

Follow the sewn care label and use a drum with enough room for the rug to move freely.

    Vacuum first

    Lift loose grit with low suction and no aggressive beater bar.

  2. 02

    Blot the spill

    Use cool water and a clean cloth. Blot gently—never scrub the fibres.

  3. 03

    Wash at 30°C

    Load loosely, wash alone on a gentle cycle, and use mild liquid detergent.

  4. 04

    Keep it gentle

    No bleach or fabric softener; both can alter colour and reduce grip.

  5. 05

    Air dry flat

    Reshape while damp and let it dry fully before returning it to the floor.

  6. 06

    Match the dry weight

    Fold loosely and use a machine whose stated capacity is at least the rug's dry weight.

Always check the sewn care label and your machine instructions. Wash the rug alone and never exceed the machine's stated dry-load capacity.
