Bedroom Rugs: What You Actually Step Onto
Share
The whole point of a bedroom rug is the first step out of bed. Everything else is secondary.
Option one: one large rug under the bed
Position it from roughly two-thirds of the way up the bed so it extends past the foot and out to both sides by 50–60 cm. Under a double or king that means 200 × 300 cm. It looks generous and it means warm floor on both sides.
Option two: two runners
One either side of the bed, 80 × 150 cm each. Cheaper, far easier to wash, and it puts the rug exactly where your feet land. In a small room it is often the better answer because it does not visually fill the floor.
Option three: one runner at the foot
Works when the bed is against a wall on one side, or in a guest room where the budget is small.
Softness versus practicality
Bedrooms are the one room where a higher pile is genuinely worth considering, because comfort underfoot matters and spills are rare. That said, if the room takes children in the morning or a dog at night, washable low pile is still the sensible choice.
Colour
Bedrooms are the safest place for pale colours — less traffic, no food. It is where a cream or a soft blush earns its keep.
